Free Tax Help for Families

VITA Tax Preparation

Through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, trained volunteers provide free tax preparation services for qualifying individuals and families, helping neighbors maximize their resources, and build financial stability.

Creating Joy for Families

Holiday Superstore

The Holiday Superstore gives families from Charlie Thomas Head Start an opportunity to earn points that can be redeemed for funds to purchase holiday gifts for their children. Families create wish lists for their children, and volunteers bring those wishes to life by shopping for the gifts.
Volunteers are especially needed for the big shopping day in late November. Volunteers gather at Target, receive a family’s wish list and shopping budget, and head out to find gifts for the children. It’s a fun and meaningful morning – and there’s something special about seeing a whole group from the St. John’s family spread throughout the store, shopping for families in our community.
Details about the shopping day and serving opportunities are announced each November through our emailed newsletter and Sunday bulletin.

Serving Together

The Great
Turkey Giveaway

Each Thanksgiving season, St. John's partners with our community to share hope and hospitality through the Great Turkey Giveaway. Church members and volunteers come together to collect, organize, and distribute Thanksgiving meals to local families, helping ensure that neighbors across our community can gather around the table with dignity and joy. Whether you donate food, volunteer your time, or help with distribution, the Great Turkey Giveaway is a meaningful way to share Christ's love in a tangible way.

United Women in Faith (UWF) is a vibrant community of women growing in faith, serving others, and working for justice in the world through mission, spiritual growth, advocacy, and Christian fellowship With more than 800,000 members worldwide,
At St. John’s, we gather monthly for a time of fellowship, learning, spiritual growth, and planning upcoming mission opportunities.
Our mission and service take many forms. For example, twice a year we host Days for Girls workdays to prepare reusable menstrual health supplies for girls around the world. We collect school supplies for UWF mission sites across Louisiana and hold a Craft & Bake Sales, with proceeds supporting mission projects and ministries. These are just a few of the ways our UWF puts faith into action.
