Faith Stories: Swaddled in God’s Arms
Ever since the request went out to tell of our faith journey with St. John’s, I have been trying to figure out how to put my journey into words. On my 30 minute ride to work five days a week I converse with my God and we have really good conversations.
But this Tuesday morning 06/09/2015 — Bam!!! God made me recall a visit I had with my late brother Edwin some years ago, after his grandchild was born and we went to meet the newest family member.
When we arrived, the baby had been crying and could not be calmed. I looked at the young mother holding the crying baby with a look on her face like, “What am I doing wrong?” I went to her and asked if I could hold the baby and, of course, she said yes. I then asked her for a receiving blanket for the baby and she went and got it. I put the receiving blanket on the bed, set the baby in the center of the blanket at an angle and wrapped one corner over her body and tucked it in under her. Then I pulled the cover over her little feet and put the excess blanket over her body, then tucked the other side of the blanket over her and tucked it under her again. She was SWADDLED snugly in her blanket. Before I could sit on the rocker to rock her to sleep, she was sleeping soundly. I advised my niece that babies have to be SWADDLED in order to feel secure. They come from a very confined, secure and safe area and now they are in this big world, and they are frightened. They need the warmth and security of the blanket.
Then it hit me WOW! That is exactly what St. John’s has done for me. It has SWADDLED me in the arms of GOD and made me secure. Every time I come to this place called St. John’s I have no problems, no matter what occurred during the week. I come to St. John’s and know for a fact that I see the face of God in every member in this church. Each person has their own special gifts from God and what is even more wonderful is that they know how to use them and share them with each other.
So you see, St. John’s is not just a building to worship the LORD, it is the LORD that is in the building and guiding us and wrapping and swaddling us in His arms, just like we do for our little babies.
