One-Day Hurricane Ida Mission
Saturday, September 25
St. Charles United Methodist Church, Destrehan, LA, is serving as a distribution site for food, cleaning supplies, water, etc. for those recovering from Hurricane Ida.
They’ve asked us for help and we said “Yes!” Will you join us?
St. Charles UMC partners with Second Harvest and United Way through its 501(c)3 food pantry, Matthew 25:35, and they are using their distribution system to distribute hurricane supplies as well. Their biggest struggle is needing more volunteers.
On Saturday, September 4, they served 205 cars but had close early, even though they had more supplies, because their volunteers (who are all Hurricane survivors themselves) just couldn’t keep going.
THEY NEED OUR HELP!
We know how to do parking lot distribution, don’t we, St. John’s?
We will join them on Saturday, September 25 to help distribute food and supplies to their neighbors in Destrehan. This is an single day mission and is great for all ages, including children.
The Details:
- Depart from St. John’s at 7 am
- Serve from 9 am-4 pm
- Arrive home by 5:30 pm
We will be working primarily outside. Please bring a sunscreen, a hat or other sun protection. Personal battery operated fans would be a good idea, too. Volunteers should be able to tolerate the heat.
Be prepared to wear a mask all day. We will be serving people of various socioeconomic backgrounds. Let us protect them and also protect ourselves.
Each person should pack a sack lunch and water. If you’re not sure what you want to eat, come by the church kitchen anytime from 6 pm-7 pm on Friday night and make a sandwich. Haleigh Schwartz, our Youth Director, will be there with all the fixings for you and will make sure your lunch gets put in a cooler for Saturday.
Please RSVP for the MISSION by Wednesday, September 22nd to Rev. Larry Norman – 225-933-1881.
YOUTH who are interested in attending – be sure to complete your permission form to Haleigh by Wednesday, September 22.
